Why did you sign up for Different?

I signed up for the Different program because I am ready to take on a bigger role and make a greater impact in this sector, and I was unsure how to go about this. I wanted to be in a space that would honestly address the lack of diverse representation at senior levels in local government, in addition to having the opportunity to build my confidence in a 'safer' space, as well as gain much-needed professional development and coaching to enable me to grow.

What impact has Different made to you?

With the help of a really supportive network and colleagues from Tile Hill, the Different program has given me the boost and confidence to take that next step and apply for bigger roles, which I am in the process of doing. It has also given me a deeper understanding of the workings of local government, and I have been able to apply this knowledge directly to my work, broadening my network across the UK and my influence within various communities.

Why would you recommend joining Different?

I recommend this program because it is quite nuanced, bringing together people with similar lived experiences. This creates an invaluable opportunity to be honest and open about challenges and to build camaraderie with others. The program also provides an excellent chance to deepen your understanding of local government. The program is well-structured and has allowed us to hear from some AMAZING speakers. It is definitely doing the job of equipping and enabling us and getting us ready for bigger roles.
